Terms of Service

Version 2026-07-31. This is the version in force. Your order is governed by the version that was showing on the day you bought.

These are the terms for buying and reading a storybook from The Grand Stories. They are short because the product is simple, and they only promise things we can actually do.

What you are buying

A personalised digital storybook: a cover and twelve illustrated pages, written and illustrated for the child you describe, narrated out loud, and readable on any phone or computer at a private link. It is a digital product. Nothing is printed or posted.

The price is shown on the site and at checkout, in US dollars, paid once. Payment is handled by Stripe.

The story and the pictures were made by a computer

The story and the pictures were made by a computer, from what you told us. The reading voice is a computer too, not a person. Under US law that means the copyright belongs to nobody, not to us and not to you. What you have is your copy, to read, print and share with your family for as long as you like.

We say this here rather than in small print because it is the honest answer to two questions people ask. The first is whether a person wrote it: no, and that is what makes a one of a kind book possible at this price. The second is whether it is exclusively yours: we cannot promise that either, because nobody can own a picture nobody drew. What is yours is the copy we made for your child, and nothing in these terms takes that away.

AI illustration is not perfect. A picture can occasionally be odd. If your book has a page you think is wrong, write to hello@thegrandstories.com and a person will look at it.

How it is delivered

The book is made after you pay, usually in a few minutes and occasionally longer, and the reading link is emailed to the address you gave. We do not put a countdown on it, because we do not know in advance how long any one book takes. The link always comes to you, including when the book is a present: we do not email anybody else on your behalf, and if you are giving it, you pass the link on yourself. You can also watch the book being made on the page shown right after checkout.

How long your book stays readable

Your book is yours to download and keep, as a file on your own computer.

The online version stays up for as long as we are running it, and if that ever has to change, we will tell you first and make sure you have your copy.

Anyone with the link can read the book, which is what lets you share it with family; treat it accordingly. If a link ever needs to be disabled, write to us and it will be.

What you confirm when you order

Before you pay there are two boxes on the form. Neither is ticked for you, and neither can be skipped:

• You are the child's parent or guardian, or you have their parent's permission to have this book made.
• You agree that the details you give about the child can be used to write and illustrate their book, as described in the Privacy Policy.

We keep a record of both, with the time you ticked them. Ordering also means agreeing that what you type is your own to give: the dedication and the description must not include anything unlawful, or anything that belongs to somebody who has not agreed to be in the book.

What we will not make a book from

A few things we will not make a book from. These are not fine print; they are the reasons an order gets stopped.

• A child you have no standing to describe. You must be their parent or guardian, or have that parent’s permission. This is the box you tick before you pay, and it is the one we mean most.
• Somebody else’s name. Not a celebrity, not a character from a film or a book, not a person who has not agreed to be in it.
• Anything sexual, violent, or hateful, anywhere you can type freely — the dedication, the description, the thing they carry everywhere.

We can refuse any order, for any reason, before or after you pay. If we refuse one you have paid for, you get all your money back. We would rather turn away a sale than put our name on a book we should not have made.

Descriptions we cannot illustrate

Separately from what we refuse, our writing and illustration providers refuse certain content of their own accord, and we honour their refusals. If a description is declined before anything is drawn, we tell you on the making-of page and invite you to reword it; nothing is lost and you are not charged twice. If our own generated picture is declined, that is our problem, not your wording, and we treat the order as failed.

Refunds

If we cannot make your book, you get your money back in full, to the card you paid with.

If the book was made and you are not happy with it, write to hello@thegrandstories.com and tell us why. We would rather give you your money back than have you keep something you did not want. A person reads that email and decides, so tell us what went wrong and we will sort it out.

What we cannot do is take it back. A book made for one named child cannot be un-made, and nobody else can be sold it, so there is nothing to return and no returns window to count down. That is why the answer above is a refund rather than a return.

If we decide we should not make the book you asked for, we will say so and refund you in full. We can make that decision for any reason, and we do not have to explain it.

Fair use of the link

Share the book with family and friends as much as you like; that is the point. Do not attempt to access other people's books, probe our systems, or resell access to the service.

If we ever have to stop

The Grand Stories is a small operation. If it ever has to close, or stop hosting the books it has made, this is what we commit to.

• We tell you first, by email, at the address your book was sent to.
• We give you a way to keep your copy before anything is switched off.
• We do not simply let the link stop working one day without saying anything.

What we cannot promise is that the site stays up forever, because nobody can promise that. What we can promise is that you hear it from us and not from a dead link.

Changes to these terms

We will change these pages when the product changes, because a page that describes an older version of the software is worse than no page.

Every version carries a date. When we change something that matters, the date changes and we say what changed. Your order is governed by the version that was showing on the day you bought.

Nothing we write here later takes away the promise about your reading link that was in force when you bought. We can change these terms for future orders. We cannot change them backwards onto yours.
